Taxi in Costa Rica

All the official taxis of San José Juan Santamaría (SJO) International Airport are orange. In ALL cases the ticket is to be paid inside the airport, at the official window of Taxi Aeropuerto in the basement corner near the official taxi line or directly by the taxi driver. You only need to say where you want to go and the bill is immediately given to you. Transport to Central Park of Alajuela (by car or microbus) costs between $7.00 and $10.00. To San José center or to San Rafael de Escazú, the cost is $27.00 (April 2009). Airport taxis can also be booked via the website [http://www.taxiaeropuerto.com].

All official taxis in Costa Rica are red. In ALL case please avoid the private taxis, better known as “pirate taxis”. Those have neither license for public transport, nor third party insurance. The official taxis can be recognized with the yellow triangles on the front doors, the red number plate and the counter inside the vehicle.

La Cruz and Cañas Castilla can also be reached by taxi.
