Cañas Castilla is the ideal place for various tours in the south of Nicaragua

Granada/Mombacho Tour - 2 days

We pass the border at Peñas Blancas and head through Rivas into the old colonial city of Granada where we stay at a middle class hotel. After a city tour in a horse and carriage, in the late afternoon we have a lovely boat tour around the beautiful Asese islands in Lake Nicaragua. Afterwards we have dinner in a local restaurant.

In the evening you can either go to the Centro Turistico, to Charly‘s Bar or step into La Fabrica. The next day we go to Mombacho volcano and enjoy the beautiful view. On the botanical trail we will discover the secrets of this mystic jungle forest. In the afternoon we return through Rivas to Cañas Castilla.

Granada/Masaya Tour – 2 days

We pass the border in Peñas Blancas and head through Rivas into the colonial city of Granada where we stay at a middle class hotel. After a city tour by horse and carriage, in the late afternoon we have a lovely boat tour around the beautiful Granada islands in the Lake of Nicaragua. In the evening we have dinner at a local restaurant.

The next day we visit the huge handicraft market of Masaya. Afterwards we visit the active Masaya volcano, enjoy the beautiful view. The ecological museum informs of the activities of the volcanos in Central America. In the afternoon return to Costa Rica/Cañas Castilla.

Ometepe Tour – 3 days

We pass the border in Peñas Blancas and drive through Rivas to the ferry port in San Jorge at Lake Nicaragua. It takes an hour to cross this freshwaterlake. We arrive in Moyogalpa on the island of Ometepe. It takes us half an hour to drive to the lagoon Charco Verde where we stay at simple accommodation. We will enjoy the sunset at this lovely sandy beach. The next day we drive by car to the Magdalena farm, at the bottom of the Madera volcano. On request we climb up to the Madera volcano(1326m), (return trip takes about 5 hours walk).

Well trained people may climb up the Concepcion volcano, (1610m), return trip takes about 8 – 10 hours walk. In the afternoon we arrive at the beautiful Playa Santo Domingo where we stay at a middle class hotel. The rest of the day is free time to spend on the beach or in the surrounding area. The next morning we go to the small city of Altagracia where we visit the historic archaelogical museum of Ometepe. By noon we have to leave this charming island, take the ferry back to San Jorge and return to Costa Rica/Cañas Castilla.

Beach Tour – 2 days

We visit Rivas and the small market. The horse and carriage takes us to San Jorge where we enjoy the view of the island of Ometepe sitting in one of the beach restaurants. In the afternoon we drive to San Juan del Sur on the pacific ocean, where we are staying in a middleclass hotel. Enjoy the sunset and walk down the beach boulevard. The next day is at your own leisure (rent a bike, a surfing board or go swimming at one of the lovely beaches nearby). In the late afternoon we return to Costa Rica/Cañas Castilla.
