Pura Vida... Finca Cabañas Cañas Castilla
Cañas Castilla Farm is located in northwest Costa Rica and covers sixty eight hectares along Sapoá River. The property is mountainous with a lot of trees, bushes, and pasture for cattle and horses. We have other animals such as our dog, a raccoon, a crocodile and a dozen chickens.
From the top of the hills there is a splendid view of Orosi volcano (Costa Rica) from one side, and of Concepción volcano in Lake Nicaragua from the other side. Seven hectares of the farm are cultivated with oranges. For our own consumption we maintain a passion fruit plantation of about one hectare. In addition we cultivate banana, soursop, avocado, coconut, mango, cashew, papaya, star fruit, tamarind and lemon. During the rainy season we also grow cucumbers, corn and squash.

Opportunities abound for taking pictures of various types of animals such as monkeys, congos, sloths, opossums, raccoons and anteaters.
Bird lovers can watch motmots, hummingbirds, herons, golden orioles, green parrots, woodpeckers, toucans, tyrant flycatchers or trogons. Ornithologists and entomologists will enjoy creating interesting determinations.
Cañas Castilla farm is also the ideal place for those who enjoy amphibians and reptiles, which can be observed in their natural environment. In addition, there is a wide variety of insects and butterflies that will be a source of joy for any photographer who loves animals.
The farm is located in the tropical forest climatic zone, ten degrees north of the equator. This geographical situation grants visitors the opportunity to view a unique and colorful variety of tropical vegetation.
Relative humidity rates, between 70 and 85%, together with a yearly average temperature of 23 to 35° Celsius, provide ideal conditions for numerous species of flowers: agave, bamboo, cotton, bougainvilleas, bromelias, fig trees or matapalos, cactus, orchids, palm trees, hanging plants, magnolias, as well as thousands of trees.
