The one day Trip offers a good look at Nicaragua, the country of lakes and volcanoes. The native guide will show you beautiful views and provide a lot of information about people, customs and history.
You are provided with transport to the Costa Rica/Nicaragua border, and assistance with migration procedures. First; we travel to the small town of Rivas near Lake Nicaragua, with a view on Ometepe Island. Here you will have an opportunity to ride in a “Rikscha”.
After visiting Rivas we go past Nandaime and enter the colonial city Granada, formerly known as “La Gran Sultana” because of its volcano. Granada, a quaint town where you will see many colonial houses, offers a tour in a horse-drawn cart, after which you can take a boat ride to the idyllic Asese Little Islands.
After a typical lunch and a visit to a Masaya craft market, we travel to Santa Catarina to admire the beautiful view to Apoyo Lagoon. This lovely day ends with the musical notes of the Marimba before we return to Costa Rica.
Several international bus lines run between Managua (Nicaragua), San José (Costa Rica), San Salvador (El Salvador), Ciudad Panamá (Panamá) and Ciudad Guatemala (Guatemala). The vehicles are modern and are equipped with air conditioning.
Customs: The guided tours to Nicaragua include our assistance with the migration formalities at the border.
To enter Nicaragua a valid passport is needed, a copy of the passport or identity cards were refused.
An original passport valid 6 months longer than the date of travel is needed to enter Nicaragua. By your coming back to Costa Rica as a tourist a proof for leaving the country again is needed (flight details out of Costa Rica, busticket to Panama). At Nicaraguan immigration they charge a total of U$ 16 per person for incoming-leaving (a U$ 2 additional during lunchtime or weekend). When you book one of our tours those fees are already included in the tour price.
The one day Tour can be extended to a two day tour with accommodation in Granada and visit of Masaya volcano and Managua. You are free to enjoy the night in Granada on your own.
Alternatively, the two day tour can involve a trip to Ometepe Island on the first day, accommodation in Granada at night, then the same program as in the one day tour.
