Condor directs flights from Frankfurt to San José from October 2020

German airline eliminates scale in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Ruta will operate twice a week: Wednesday and Sunday.

As a result of the negotiations held during the last year between the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) and the German airline CONDOR, the company said Thursday that from October 2020 it will fly directly from Frankfurt, Germany to the Juan Santamaría International Airport ( AIJS), thus reinforcing the commitment to Costa Rica and eliminating the scale in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The route will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays in a Boeing 767-300 with a capacity for 255 passengers (18 in Bussiness class, 35 Premium and 202 Economy) and will adjust its schedule. From Frankfurt, the fifth largest city in Germany, the flight will depart at 14.05 hours and arrive in Costa Rica at 20.05 hours. Two hours later, at 22.05, the SJO-FRA flight will take off and arrive in Germany at 6.35.

"Condor's decision influenced the support and confidence that ICT maintained towards the airline during the bankruptcy of its parent company Thomas Cook, a company from which it has already completed its separation," said María Amalia Revelo, Minister of Tourism.

The German market has been one of the fastest growing for Costa Rica in recent years. From January to October 2019, the country accounted for 53 373 German arrivals by air, which represents a growth of 11.6% in relation to the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, in 2018, 74,574 Germans arrived in the country by all means, 15% of the total visitation from Europe.

In 2017 the average stay and expenditure of the Germans was estimated at 16.7 nights and US $ 143.16 per day. The activities that these tourists prefer in Costa Rica include: Sun and beach, trekking (with specialized shoes - hiking trails), bird watching, visit to the volcanoes and enjoy the local cuisine.
